Spanberger Just Banned Your AR. Virginia's Fight Back Starts Now.
Bloomberg's governor signed a semi-auto ban, age restrictions, and carry crackdowns in one stroke — federal courts are next.
She ran as a moderate. She governed as a gun banner. Remember that.
Spanberger — Democrat successor to Glenn Youngkin — signed a package of gun control bills that the NRA-ILA has already labeled unconstitutional on at least three separate fronts: a semi-automatic firearms ban, new age restrictions on purchasing and possessing certain firearms, and fresh attacks on concealed carry rights.
Three fronts. One signature. Millions of Virginians affected.
**This is what a Bloomberg blitz looks like when it finishes the job.**
The semi-automatic ban is exactly as radical as it sounds. The Supreme Court's *Bruen* decision (2022) couldn't have been clearer: firearms in common use for lawful purposes are constitutionally protected. Semi-automatic rifles and pistols aren't a fringe category — they are the most widely owned firearms in the United States. Spanberger signed the ban anyway. She either didn't read *Bruen*, or she didn't care.
The age restriction provisions are their own constitutional gut-punch. Virginia just told young adults — people legally old enough to enlist, deploy, and die for this country — that they don't get the same Second Amendment rights as everyone else inside state lines. That is not a reasonable regulation. That is a two-tiered system of rights based on age.
The concealed carry provisions tighten the screws on citizens trying to lawfully protect themselves and their families. Not criminals. Not gangs. **Law-abiding people who filled out every form, passed every background check, and played by every rule.**
Spanberger didn't build this alone. Bloomberg's money flooded Virginia in 2019, flipped the legislature, and began the dismantling. They just ran the same playbook again — except this time they had a governor's mansion, a compliant legislature, and a bigger hammer. The machine worked exactly as designed.
Here's why this isn't over: post-*Bruen*, federal courts have been striking down this exact category of legislation across the country. Virginia's new laws are a live target for a constitutional challenge — and according to the NRA-ILA, that challenge is already forming.
**The courtroom battle begins now. So does the political one.**
If you're in Virginia, go to nraila.org, activate state alerts, and get behind the legal fight. If you're anywhere else, watch this case. Courts that have already ruled semi-auto bans unconstitutional are going to hear arguments about Virginia's version — and the outcome will ripple far beyond one state.
Spanberger bet that Virginians would forget by the next election. **Make sure they don't.**
