SF Operators Can't Carry at Home—This Bill Ends That
Rep. Harrigan's Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act would give America's most elite warriors one national standard—zero state permission slips.
Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-NC) just introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act—and if you need to know where he's coming from, start here: he's a Special Forces and 75th Ranger Regiment combat veteran who wrote this bill for the guys he served beside.
The legislation would create a defined class of "qualified special operators"—active-duty and honorably discharged personnel at paygrades E5 through E9, W1 through W5, and O1 through O10—and grant them nationwide concealed carry rights with no state permit required. Army Special Forces. Delta Force. Senior NCOs. Combat medics. Navy operators. The people handed the hardest missions on earth.
**The absurdity is almost too clean to believe.** These warriors are background-checked, psychologically evaluated, and trained to a standard most law enforcement will never touch. Then they land at a domestic airport and suddenly need a permission slip from Albany or Sacramento to protect their own families.
Harrigan's fix is elegant: mirror the legal framework already used by the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, which extends nationwide carry to qualified active and retired law enforcement. If that precedent exists for cops, there is zero coherent argument for why a three-deployment Green Beret doesn't qualify.
None of the usual objections survive contact with reality here. "Insufficient training"? These are among the most extensively vetted human beings in the country. "Public safety risk"? The states that would block this bill are the same states that spent years letting career criminals cycle back onto the streets.
**This isn't a loophole. It's a correction.**
The states that use permitting bureaucracy as a backdoor gun ban have no credible case—legal, moral, or practical—for making a combat veteran navigate fifty different systems just to carry while picking up his kids from school.
The bill is introduced. Now comes the pressure campaign.
**Contact your representative today and demand they co-sponsor the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act.** Our operators didn't ask for a permission slip when they went downrange for us. Congress owes them the same respect the moment they step back onto American soil.
Watch this one. If it gains co-sponsors fast, it signals that the post-*Bruen* legislative environment is finally ready to move on carry rights in ways that put anti-gun states in an impossible position. And that's exactly where we want them.
