Green Beret Congressman: Stop Treating Elite Warriors as Criminals
Harrigan's SOF Concealed Carry Act would end the insanity of anti-gun states disarming the deadliest operators alive the second they cross a state line.
Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) — Army Special Forces veteran — introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act, a bill that extends federal concealed carry authority to both active-duty and veteran special operations personnel in all 50 states.
Think about what that means for a second.
These are operators who train allied militaries, execute missions no one else can, and carry weapons into environments most people can't even imagine. Then they come home — and the moment they drive through a state with a 'may issue' attitude and a political grudge against gun owners, they're exposed to criminal liability for the firearm on their hip.
**That's not a policy. That's an insult.**
Harrigan isn't some desk-bound staffer who stumbled onto this issue. He wore the uniform. He carried the weapon. He knows exactly what it feels like to be world-class dangerous in a combat zone — and legally defenseless the moment a state line appears on the map.
The bill models itself on the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), the existing federal framework that already grants qualified off-duty and retired law enforcement the right to carry concealed nationwide. SOF operators — who face documented, service-related personal security threats that don't vanish when the deployment ends — have every bit as strong a case. Arguably stronger.
The logic is bulletproof: if the federal government trusts these men and women to operate in the most dangerous environments on earth, no state politician gets a veto on whether they can protect themselves at a gas station in New Jersey.
Right now, a retired Special Forces Master Sergeant relocating through California becomes a felon in the making the moment he carries the pistol he has trained with for twenty years. There is no public safety argument that survives contact with that reality. It is pure political theater — performed at the expense of the most capable, most trained, most vetted gun handlers alive.
**Harrigan's bill ends that theater.**
The legislation is clean, targeted, and hard to argue against — which means the opposition will try anyway. Watch for the usual choreography: 'loopholes,' 'dangerous precedent,' the whole playbook. They will dress up their resistance in safety language while the people who actually kept this country safe get treated like suspects.
That's the fight. And it's just getting started.
