GOP Bill Gives Special Forces Vets Carry Rights in All 50 States

New legislation would override anti-gun state laws for elite military veterans — no permission required

WTF News April 24, 2026 📖 2 min read

A Republican lawmaker has introduced legislation granting active-duty Special Forces personnel and eligible veterans nationwide concealed-carry privileges, bulldozing the patchwork of restrictive state laws that leave trained warfighters disarmed the moment they cross into California, New York, or Illinois.

The same operators who ran classified missions in the most dangerous corners of the planet come home only to get told by a state bureaucrat that they cannot carry a firearm to protect themselves at the grocery store. This bill ends that.

Newsweek confirmed the legislation would override state-level restrictions that 'can differ significantly from one jurisdiction to another.' Translation: blue-state politicians like Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul have been treating decorated combat veterans like second-class citizens. This bill fixes that.

Special Forces operators represent the gold standard of firearms training. These men and women spent careers mastering weapons systems, threat assessment, and lethal-force decisions under the most extreme conditions imaginable. No civilian firearms instructor, no state licensing board, and no anti-gun politician is more qualified to judge their readiness to carry.

The federal preemption approach is the right move. National reciprocity legislation has stalled for years because Senate Democrats blocked it at every turn. Going directly to bat for Special Forces members — a constituency nearly impossible to argue against — is smart politics and the right thing to do.

Acting AG Todd Blanche and the Justice Department should throw their full weight behind this bill the moment it hits the floor.

Gun owners: contact your representatives today and demand they co-sponsor this legislation. Our warriors earned the right to defend themselves anywhere in this country. It is past time Congress made it law.
