Rep. Harrigan's SOF Concealed Carry Act extends federal carry rights to active and veteran special operators nationwide

WTF News April 25, 2026 📖 2 min read

Rep. Pat Harrigan (NC-10) introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act this week, granting federal concealed carry authority to both active-duty and veteran special operations forces — the same warriors who train harder and shoot better than virtually anyone on the planet.

Think Navy SEALs, Army Green Berets, Delta Force operators, Marine Raiders. These men and women clear rooms in hostile territory overseas, then come home to find politicians who have never held a rifle dictating where they can carry a sidearm.

Harrigan is no armchair quarterback. The former Army Ranger and combat veteran earned the right to author exactly this kind of legislation.

Under current law, the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) extends nationwide concealed carry to qualified active and retired law enforcement. Special operators have been left out of that framework — despite marksmanship and firearms proficiency standards that meet or exceed anything in law enforcement training. Harrigan's bill corrects that directly. If you qualified to hunt terrorists in Kandahar or Mosul, you qualify to carry a pistol in Minneapolis or San Francisco.

This isn't just symbolically important — it's constitutionally correct. The Second Amendment carves out no exceptions for zip codes or state lines, and it does not strip rights from the men who defended it in blood.

Anti-gun state governments in California, New York, and Illinois have spent years erecting barriers against concealed carry for law-abiding citizens. Federal authority for SOF personnel cuts straight through those barriers.

No legislative opposition has surfaced yet, but expect Shannon Watts, Everytown, and their congressional allies to manufacture a reason to fight it. They always do.

Call your representative today and demand they co-sponsor the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act. If we trust these warriors with a rifle in Fallujah, we trust them with a pistol in Phoenix.
