Congress Moves to Give Vets Nationwide Carry Rights
New bill would grant honorably discharged veterans the same coast-to-coast carry privileges already enjoyed by federal law enforcement.
The double standard is hard to overstate. Under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, retired federal law enforcement carry concealed nationwide without restriction. Meanwhile, millions of honorably discharged veterans — men and women who trained under federal supervision, passed the most rigorous background checks the U.S. government runs, and demonstrated the judgment to operate in active war zones — must navigate a hostile patchwork of state laws that turns them into criminals simply for crossing a state line while armed.
New federal legislation would end that absurdity. The bill would grant qualified, honorably discharged service members the same nationwide concealed carry recognition already extended to federal law enforcement — a recognition veterans earned in uniform and have been denied ever since.
There is no rational argument for treating a combat veteran as less trustworthy than an ATF desk agent. None. Veterans trained with firearms under federal oversight. They carried weapons in the most demanding environments on earth. The government trusted them with crew-served weapons downrange — it has no business stripping that trust the moment they come home.
Anti-gun state governments in California, New York, and Illinois have spent decades erecting legal walls designed to disarm law-abiding citizens. Veterans caught in those traps deserve federal protection, not condescension from politicians who have never served a day in their lives.
Acting AG Todd Blanche and the Justice Department should throw their full weight behind this bill. The administration has a clear opportunity to deliver a concrete, meaningful win for the veteran community and for the Second Amendment — at the same time.
This is not a partisan issue. It is a basic matter of constitutional consistency and respect. If the federal government trusts these men and women enough to hand them a rifle and send them downrange, it must trust them to carry at home.
Call your representative today. Demand they co-sponsor and fast-track this legislation. Our veterans did not leave their rights on the battlefield — it is long past time Congress stopped acting like they did.
