Army Ranger in Congress: SOF Veterans Deserve Nationwide Carry
Rep. Pat Harrigan's new bill would end the 50-state permission-slip nightmare for Special Forces, SEALs, Delta, and Raiders—active and honorably discharged.
Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-NC) has introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act, a bill that would extend LEOSA-style nationwide concealed carry rights to qualified special operators—both active-duty and honorably discharged veterans.
The bill defines a "qualified special operator" as anyone who served at paygrade E5 through E9, W1 through W5, or O1 through O10 in a special operations role. That means Special Forces, Delta Force, Navy SEALs, Marine Raiders, and the NCOs and medics who bleed alongside them.
Let that sink in for a second.
The same Green Beret who kept a village alive in Afghanistan—hand-selected, psychologically screened, trained on every weapons system the U.S. military fields—gets home to find he needs Sacramento's permission to carry a concealed pistol to the grocery store. A Delta operator who spent a decade hunting the worst people on earth is suddenly at the mercy of a patchwork of 50 conflicting state laws the moment he takes off the uniform.
**That's not a policy. That's an insult.**
Harrigan's bill cuts through the insanity by mirroring the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA)—a framework already extended to retired law enforcement that has run without controversy for over two decades. If Congress trusts a retired beat cop to carry nationwide, it can trust an operator who ran classified missions behind enemy lines.
This is not a close call. These are not random applicants who passed a weekend safety course. They are the most thoroughly vetted, psychologically evaluated, and lethally capable people the federal government has ever produced. The same government that handed them crew-served weapons and classified intelligence is now making them beg state bureaucrats for carry rights.
**The federal government trusted them with America's hardest secrets. It can trust them with a Glock at Costco.**
Harrigan didn't learn about this world from a briefing book—he wore the Ranger tab and earned the credential. That matters. Legislators who've lived the mission don't write performative bills. They write ones that fix actual problems for actual people.
Anti-gun Democrats will predictably call this bill "dangerous" and demand to know why operators need to carry "anywhere, anytime." Reject that framing on sight. It's engineered to make common-sense carry sound radical. The real question—the one they will never answer—is why Congress ever decided that people who bled for this country are less trustworthy than a career desk bureaucrat clutching a state permit.
The SOF Concealed Carry Act is exactly the kind of targeted, defensible, morally obvious 2A expansion that should sail through a Republican House. Watch who opposes it—and remember their names.
**Contact your House representative now and demand they cosponsor the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act.** These warriors earned every right the rest of us are still fighting to keep. Congress is long, long overdue to agree.
