Wyoming Just Betrayed Its Own Gun Owners—No State Is Safe
HB14 is dead. Even in a constitutional carry state, one justified shoot can cost you $200K—and lawmakers just voted to keep it that way.
The Wyoming legislature killed HB14, a bill that would have shielded gun owners from financial ruin when they defend themselves and get dragged into civil court afterward. No drama, no fight, no last-minute save. Just dead.
Here is the math anti-gun politicians pray you never run: **winning a self-defense case can still destroy you.** Attorney fees, expert witnesses, depositions, court costs—a justified defensive shooting can run $50,000 to $200,000 or more, even after you beat every charge. The criminal who attacked you gets a public defender. You get a second mortgage.
This is backdoor gun control—and nobody from Bloomberg's operation had to lift a finger to engineer it. Prosecutors know the economics cold. So do the activists who pressure them to charge lawful defenders anyway. The financial deterrent to armed self-defense is a *feature* of the current system, not a flaw. Wyoming's legislature just voted to keep it firmly in place.
Let that land. Not California. Not New York. **Wyoming.**
Texas, Florida, and Arizona have passed legal immunity or fee-shifting protections for justified defenders. Wyoming just looked at that list and chose not to join it. The national lesson is brutal: a 2A-friendly state government is not the same thing as a 2A-*protective* state government. Plenty of legislators will pose with ARs at campaign events—and then quietly let the bills that actually matter die in committee.
**That is not a friend. That is a prop.**
Gun owners in the Cowboy State—and in every state watching this—need to know which representatives torpedoed HB14 and make those names politically expensive. Elections have consequences. So does silence.
Your right to keep and bear arms means nothing if exercising it in a life-or-death moment opens the door to financial destruction. The Second Amendment does not come with a lawyer.
**What you do right now:** Look up your state's self-defense legal protection laws. If your state lacks strong fee-shifting or immunity provisions, find the bill, find your legislator, and make noise before the session closes. And in the meantime—get a self-defense legal insurance plan. USCCA, CCW Safe, or equivalent. The legislatures may not save you. You can still save yourself.
Watch the states where similar bills are alive in 2025–2026. Wyoming just showed what happens when gun owners go quiet. The other side never does.
