Virginia Sheriffs, Prosecutors Refuse to Enforce New Gun Ban
Elected law enforcement officials draw the line before the first door gets knocked on
Multiple Commonwealth's Attorneys and sheriffs across Virginia have gone on record: they will not enforce the new gun ban against law-abiding citizens. They say the law violates the Second Amendment, and they refuse to make criminals out of honest people.
This is what real constitutional resistance looks like. Not a press release. Not a hashtag. Elected law enforcement officials — accountable to their communities — drawing a hard line before the first knock on the first door.
Virginia Democrats pushed this ban through using the same tired playbook: dress up a sweeping firearms prohibition as "common-sense reform" and dare anyone to object. What they didn't count on was the sheriffs and prosecutors who live in these counties, know their constituents, and understand that the Second Amendment is not a suggestion.
This isn't the first time Virginia's gun-control machine has hit this wall. After the 2020 legislative blitz — bankrolled in large part by Bloomberg money that helped flip the General Assembly — more than 90 Virginia counties and cities passed Second Amendment sanctuary resolutions. Richmond Democrats sneered at those resolutions as symbolic. The sheriffs enforcing them had the last laugh.
History is repeating itself, and it's repeating loudly.
The gun-control lobby will now do what it always does: threaten, litigate, and pressure. Expect Everytown, Giffords, and their allies in the Virginia AG's office to target these officials. Expect media outlets to frame principled constitutional resistance as "chaos" or "defiance of the rule of law" — the same outlets that cheered when progressive prosecutors refused to enforce drug laws and immigration statutes. The rules change fast when the target is your guns. Never forget that.
For Virginia gun owners, the move is clear: know your sheriff's position, know your Commonwealth's Attorney's position, and vote in every local election like your rights depend on it — because they do. Support the officials standing firm. Primary or replace the ones who won't.
The line is being held. Make sure the people holding it know you've got their backs.
