Spanberger Just Signed 3 Anti-Gun Bills—Courts Are All That's Left
Virginia bans under-21 semi-auto purchases, restricts concealed carry, and lays groundwork for broader bans—NRA-ILA says all three are unconstitutional.
Governor Glenn Youngkin held the line. Youngkin is gone.
On Wednesday, newly installed Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed three gun-restriction bills into law. Every law-abiding Virginian with a firearm just had their rights stripped back. Here is exactly what she signed—and why every gun owner in America should be paying attention.
**THE AGE BAN**
Virginians under 21 are now legally barred from purchasing semi-automatic rifles and shotguns. Think about who that actually hits: a 20-year-old Marine veteran—honorably discharged, legally employed, clean record—is now banned by the Commonwealth from exercising a constitutional right. The legislature looked at that person and decided they're too dangerous to trust.
**That is not a safety measure. That is a statement about who the government thinks deserves rights.**
**THE FRAMEWORK BILL**
This one is the sleeper threat. The second bill builds the statutory foundation for restricting an entire class of commonly owned firearms. The NRA-ILA flags it as a direct collision with both *Bruen* and *Heller*, which hold that firearms restrictions cannot apply to weapons in common use. Semi-automatic rifles are the most popular rifle platform in America. There is no legal daylight here—and that's exactly why they're building the framework now, before the next court fight.
**THE CONCEALED CARRY SQUEEZE**
The third bill tightens concealed carry provisions statewide—burdening the precise right the Supreme Court affirmed in *Bruen* (2022): the right to bear arms outside the home. They read *Bruen* and decided to push anyway. That tells you everything about how much they respect the Court's ruling.
**THE BLUEPRINT EXPOSED**
Spanberger ran as a moderate. That was the costume. The bills she signed Wednesday came from the same gun-control lobby infrastructure—funded by the same Bloomberg network—that has spent a decade flipping state legislatures and installing compliant governors. Virginia was their blueprint. Now it is their trophy.
And they are already drawing up the plans for your state.
**WHERE THE FIGHT GOES NOW**
The NRA-ILA has tagged all three bills as unconstitutional and signaled the fight moves to the courts. Under *Bruen*, any restriction on commonly owned firearms without a founding-era historical analogue fails the constitutional test. Age-based bans on adult citizens purchasing semi-automatic firearms have zero founding-era precedent. Zero.
But here is the hard truth gun owners need to hear: court challenges take years. These laws take effect now.
The burden falls on Virginia gun owners and gun rights organizations to fund the litigation, show up at the statehouse, and make Spanberger own every one of these votes when she faces voters again in 2029. History. On. The. Record.
**THE CLOSER**
Virginia just became the warning label for every state with a competitive governor's race. The Bloomberg playbook is proven, funded, and replicable. They will try this where you live next—and they will use Virginia as proof it works.
