Police Seek Battery Arrest After Shreveport Workplace Shooting
A witness described an assault before an employee fired a handgun; the report does not establish a final legal ruling on self-defense.
- Detectives sought the wounded man’s arrest for second-degree battery.
- No final self-defense ruling is established by the report.
An armed employee shot a man in the hand during a reported assault at a Shreveport business, according to a police account reported by Bearing Arms on October 25. Detectives sought the wounded man’s arrest for second-degree battery.
Police responding to the shooting found 42-year-old Michael Durham with a gunshot wound to his hand. Another man had minor head injuries. A witness told a detective that Durham entered the business and punched the other man in the face.
The witness reported hearing two gunshots and seeing Durham run from the building. Investigators learned that the other man allegedly fired a handgun during the altercation, striking Durham in the hand.
Bearing Arms reported that detectives determined Durham should be arrested for second-degree battery. Its account said no charge against the armed man had been reported at that time. That is the reported charging status, rather than a court ruling that the shooting was justified.
