SCOTUS Took the Case—Then Surgically Cut the 2A Questions Out
18 Second Amendment petitions hit the April 24 conference. Justices granted one—then carved out every gun-rights issue and left them on the floor.
This wasn't bad luck. This was a scalpel.
At the April 24 conference, 18 Second Amendment cert petitions sat before the justices. One of those petitions raised three questions—two of them squarely on the Second Amendment. SCOTUS granted the petition. Then it cherry-picked the single non-2A question and left the gun-rights issues bleeding on the table.
**That's not oversight. That's a message.**
Since *Bruen* (2022) and *Rahimi* (2024), the Court has refused to clean up the wreckage those decisions left in the lower courts. Anti-gun circuit judges have been running a demolition derby—rewriting the *Bruen* historical-tradition test, upholding magazine bans, carry restrictions, and possession prohibitions—while SCOTUS watches from the stands and says nothing.
Seventeen other 2A petitions also sat in that conference room. The full April 24 disposition list isn't public yet. But the Court's decision to surgically remove the Second Amendment questions from an otherwise granted case doesn't leave much to the imagination about where the bench's appetite currently stands.
This is deliberate avoidance—and law-abiding gun owners pay the price every single time a rogue lower-court ruling goes unchallenged. Criminal violence escalates in the jurisdictions where courts strip good citizens of effective self-defense tools, and those courts are facing zero correction from above.
**The lower courts aren't a waiting room for SCOTUS to fix things. Right now, they're the whole game.**
Watch the full April 24 disposition list closely. If the remaining 17 petitions get denied or quietly relisted again without comment, the Court's position becomes impossible to spin: you have a right, but no reliably functioning remedy.
SCOTUS is not riding to the rescue. The organizations grinding through the lower courts every day—that's where your rights are actually being won or lost right now. Act accordingly.
