SCOTUS Had 18 Shots to Defend the 2A—Took None
April 24 conference: 18 Second Amendment petitions, zero grants—and the one case they touched, they stripped of its constitutional questions.
The justices had every opportunity. Eighteen cert petitions. Eighteen chances to rein in the rogue lower courts that have been shredding *Bruen* since the ink dried in 2022.
They passed on every single one.
One petition was practically gift-wrapped—three questions on the table, two of them dead-center Second Amendment. The Court's move? Cherry-pick the one unrelated question and leave both constitutional challenges sitting on the floor like they weren't there.
**That's not judicial caution. That's a pattern.**
Since *Bruen* reshaped the landscape in 2022 and *Rahimi* followed last year, lower courts haven't gotten the message—or they have, and they don't care. Circuit judges have upheld sweeping gun bans, rewritten the historical-tradition test on the fly, and invented creative detours designed to gut *Bruen*'s mandate without technically defying it. Gun owners have been screaming for SCOTUS to step back in and clean up the wreckage.
The Court keeps hitting snooze.
Every day the justices stall, unconstitutional restrictions stay on the books. Law-abiding Americans keep living under rules the Constitution forbids. Circuit splits widen. Lower courts grow bolder—because **why wouldn't they?** The silence from One First Street reads like permission.
And the tens of millions of Americans who own firearms—or who want to—keep waiting for the Court they were promised after *Bruen*.
The term closes in June. Watch every remaining conference date between now and then. If SCOTUS doesn't grant a meaningful 2A case before the gavel drops, the anti-gun lobby won't treat that silence as neutral. They will treat it as a green light—and they will use it aggressively going into the next legislative cycle.
**Eighteen petitions. Zero grants. The clock is running.**
We'll be tracking every remaining conference this term. Don't look away.
