San Diego County is taking a gun-related lawsuit beyond firearm manufacturers. Its new case targets Polymaker LLC, a supplier of plastic filament used in 3D printers.
Bearing Arms reported October 6 that the county, assisted by Giffords Law Center, filed the lawsuit on Monday. The case alleges violations of California’s unfair-competition and false-advertising laws connected to marketing aimed at the gun-printing community.
According to that report’s account of the complaint, the county points to firearm-themed products, relationships with influencers and technical advice concerning firearm applications. The complaint acknowledges lawful uses for printing filament and says it does not seek to prohibit all filament sales in California.
The distinction is central: this is a challenge to alleged business practices involving a general-purpose material. The allegations concern the county’s account of how Polymaker promoted its products. The complaint says it targets the company’s marketing for allegedly unlawful firearm manufacture in California.
