Lytle Homeowner Shoots Intruder After Being Cornered, Police Say

A Lytle homeowner faced an intruder inside his house while police were responding nearby. According to the police account, he was cornered and used a firearm to protect his family.

KSAT reported October 5 that a 36-year-old man entered a nearby residence after a disturbance Sunday night in Saddle Ridge Estates. Police described the residence as apparently chosen at random. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bearing Arms’s October 6 follow-up reports that Police Chief Richey Priest requested Texas Rangers assistance. A child with knife wounds was found at the initial disturbance, but the reporting cautions that the connection between that stabbing and the man who was shot had not been officially confirmed.

The homeowner’s reported defensive action is the story. A final legal determination is still pending. Do not fill the unanswered questions with assumptions about weapons, motive or the stabbing.
