Hillsborough Prosecutors Decline Charges After Reported Headlock Shooting
The charging decision followed a fatal confrontation involving a homeowner and a teenager.
Hillsborough County prosecutors say they cannot successfully refute self-defense in a fatal shooting involving a homeowner. They will not file charges, according to October 4 reporting in Bearing Arms.
The reported police account began with teenagers approaching a home while looking for a missing cellphone. During a confrontation outside the enclosed patio, the homeowner was placed in a headlock and feared for his life. One shot struck a 15-year-old, who died at the scene.
The report says the homeowner cooperated with investigators and the firearm was taken as evidence. Prosecutors have now concluded that no charges will be filed.
It does not turn trespassing alone into permission to use deadly force. The reported physical attack is central to the account and must remain central to the headline and body. A teenager’s death should not be treated as entertainment or a general tactical lesson. Follow the documented charging decision.
