Green Beret Fought for Your Freedom—Now He Can't Carry at Home
Congressman Pat Harrigan's bill would give SOF veterans the same carry rights as cops—no state permission slips, no bureaucratic disarmament.
Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) has introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act, extending federal concealed carry authority to both active-duty and veteran special operations personnel—Delta Force, Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Rangers, MARSOC, and their peers.
These aren't casual gun owners navigating a permit maze. These are operators who completed some of the most demanding firearms training on earth. And right now, the law treats them worse than it treats a retired meter reader with a police pension.
That's not hyperbole—it's the statute. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) already grants active and retired law enforcement nationwide carry authority, regardless of state law. Harrigan's bill applies that exact same logic to SOF personnel. **If LEOSA works for cops, it works for the men who trained them.**
Harrigan isn't working from a think-tank memo. He's a combat veteran and former Army Special Forces officer who lived this gap himself. Under current law, a man who ran direct-action raids overseas comes home, crosses a state line, and gets stripped of his right to carry—because a hostile state legislature says so. That is a policy failure with no defensible justification.
The bill has not cleared committee. Eyes open.
But its introduction does something important: it puts every House Republican on record. Co-sponsor it, or explain to your constituents why elite warriors deserve fewer rights than local police retirees. **That's not a hard vote—unless you're not who you say you are.**
Watch which members slow-walk this. Watch who lets it die in committee without a hearing. That list is a receipt—and 2A voters should keep it.
**Bottom line:** Call your House rep today and demand they co-sponsor the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act. If the warriors who defended your freedom can't carry freely on American soil, the system is broken—and the clock is running.
