Green Beret Congressman: Let SOF Operators Carry at Home
Rep. Pat Harrigan's new bill would give active-duty and veteran special operations forces the same federal carry rights cops already have—in all 50 states.
Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) dropped the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act this week, and the premise alone should make every gun owner's jaw tighten.
These are operators—Delta, Rangers, SEALs, Green Berets—whose marksmanship and weapons-handling standards obliterate anything a standard concealed carry permit requires. They've run guns in the most lethal environments on the planet. Then they come home, and the bureaucratic machinery treats them like they need to prove themselves at the DMV.
**Read that again and let it sink in.**
Harrigan's bill mirrors the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act—LEOSA—which already grants current and retired law enforcement federal concealed carry authority in all 50 states, no local permit required. SOF personnel carry comparable, often *superior*, weapons proficiency and have operated under conditions most LEOs will never face. LEOSA leaves them out entirely. Harrigan closes that gap.
This isn't a freshman congressman grandstanding for a campaign clip. Harrigan served as a Special Forces officer before flipping a Democrat-held seat in North Carolina's 10th district in 2024. He didn't write this bill to learn the issue—**he wrote it because he lived it.**
This is exactly how Second Amendment expansion gets done. You don't wait for the gun-grabbers to set the terms of the debate. You find the people who have already *earned* the right by every conceivable measure, and you write the law that catches up to reality.
The bill now awaits committee assignment. That's the moment when constituent pressure moves the needle—before the lobbying calculus gets locked in and before opposition has time to organize.
Call your House representative today and demand co-sponsorship. If your rep sits on the House Judiciary Committee, that call is not optional—it's the one that counts. Find your rep at house.gov, take two minutes, and make the ask.
**Watch this bill.** If it stalls, you'll want to know exactly who let it die—and why.
