DOJ Sues Denver, D.C., L.A.—Virginia Is Next
Trump's new 2A Section filed 5 federal suits in 6 months — and Harmeet Dhillon told Virginia's governor 'see you in court' before the ink dried
The Department of Justice's Second Amendment Section — opened inside the Civil Rights Division in December 2025 — has already sued Los Angeles County, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the city of Denver, the state of Colorado, and Washington, D.C. Five jurisdictions. Six months. The same division that spent years advancing left-wing grievance politics is now dragging gun-grabbing governments into federal court.
The Bloomberg-funded propaganda shop at The Trace calls this "hollowing out" the Civil Rights Division. Translation: the division created in 1957 is now treating the Second Amendment like the civil right it actually is — instead of a second-class footnote gun owners were supposed to ignore. The DOJ just showed up with a tank.
Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon didn't wait for Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to finish signing her state's new semi-auto ban before firing a warning shot. Seconds after Spanberger's signature hit paper, Dhillon posted on X: "See you in court." That's not a threat — that's a promise. It's the kind of promise gun owners have been waiting years to hear from a federal official.
The Second Amendment Foundation — running 50-plus active lawsuits simultaneously — put it plainly. SAF's Kostas Moros said having the DOJ in the fight is like bringing "an 800-pound gorilla into the room," because federal courts treat the U.S. government with a constitutional seriousness they don't always extend to private plaintiffs. DOJ involvement forces judges to confront these cases head-on — no political cover, no procedural dodge.
The Trace and Mother Jones — two outlets with deep financial ties to the gun-control industry — frame this as some reckless departure from tradition. Don't buy it. The tradition they're defending is one where the Civil Rights Division looked the other way while cities like D.C. and Denver stripped law-abiding citizens of their constitutional rights for decades. That tradition is over.
The new 2A Section isn't dismantling civil rights. It's enforcing one the Left spent 50 years pretending doesn't exist.
**Bottom line:** The DOJ is now your ally in the courtroom. Virginia is in the crosshairs. Watch the dockets at justice.gov/crt/second-amendment-section — and if you live in a state with pending unconstitutional gun restrictions, contact your state attorney general and demand they stand down before Harmeet Dhillon does it for them.
