Dems Move to Kill Gun-Owner Privacy Apr. 28

A live bill would hand ATF a de facto gun registry—and the hearing that decides its fate is days away.

**April 28.** Mark it. The House Oversight Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement convenes a formal hearing on the Tiahrt Amendment—the appropriations riders that have blocked ATF from building a de facto gun registry, required background-check records to be destroyed within 24 hours, and barred mandatory dealer inventory audits.

That hearing doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Sitting live in the 119th Congress is Rep. Madeleine Dean's **Gun Records Restoration and Preservation Act**, introduced June 2025. It doesn't nibble at Tiahrt's edges—it nukes every protection at once. Tracing-data restrictions, FOIA limits, the 24-hour NICS destruction requirement: gone. What replaces them is the surveillance infrastructure gun-control groups have been hunting for two decades.

**Call it what it is.** Kill the 24-hour destruction rule and you don't have a background-check system anymore—you have a registry with a friendlier name. End the dealer-audit prohibition and every FFL in the country becomes a fishing hole for federal agents with a checklist and a grudge.

Dean and her allies will sell this as a trafficking-enforcement upgrade. That's the packaging. The product is a national gun-owner database, built brick by brick with your records.

The subcommittee holds a Republican majority—which is the only reason April 28 is a debate rather than a done deal. But Republican majorities have folded on gun issues before. Bloomberg-backed pressure groups are already working the phones, and they won't stop until the gavel drops.

**This is the moment that matters.** Not after the vote. Not after the bill passes committee. Now—before the 28th—is when calls to your House representative still move the needle. Demand they oppose the Gun Records Restoration and Preservation Act by name. Then show up to the hearing, virtually or in person, and make sure pro-2A voices are the loudest thing in that room.

The other side is counting on gun owners to find out about this too late. Don't give them that gift.
