Congress to Give Special Ops Vets Nationwide Carry Rights
New House bill overrides state restrictions, granting concealed carry authority to active-duty and veteran special operations personnel in all 50 states.
The House of Representatives unveiled legislation this week granting nationwide concealed carry authority to active-duty special operations personnel and their veteran counterparts. These are the men and women who trained relentlessly to defend this country abroad. This bill says they don't surrender that right when they come home.
Right now, a Navy SEAL who ran raids in hostile territory gets disarmed the moment he crosses into a gun-hostile state like California or New York. A Green Beret with 20 years of combat deployments gets treated like a criminal for carrying in Illinois. This bill ends that.
The legislation cuts through the patchwork of state-by-state concealed carry restrictions that have long punished law-abiding gun owners — and in this case, the most thoroughly vetted, most extensively trained firearms handlers in the world. If anti-gun politicians like Illinois Governor JB Pritzker or New York's Kathy Hochul want to argue these veterans can't be trusted with a sidearm, they should make that case to a Gold Star family.
This bill also demolishes the absurd premise that concealed carry is inherently dangerous. Special operations veterans log more real-world trigger time than most police officers will accumulate in an entire career. Every anti-gun argument about "untrained civilians" collapses completely when applied to a Force Recon Marine or a Delta operator.
The bill isn't national constitutional carry for all Americans — that fight continues — but it establishes a critical precedent: the federal government can and should override state laws that infringe on the rights of qualified citizens.
This is a win in progress. Contact your House representative right now and demand they co-sponsor and fast-track this legislation. Our veterans bled for the Second Amendment. The least Congress can do is make sure it applies to them everywhere on American soil.
