Five California Gun Bills Reach the Floor — The FFL-Killer Bill Died in Committee

NRA-ILA reported August 14 that both California Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committees advanced a slate of anti-2A bills on August 13. Heading to the Senate floor: AB 1743 expands access to the Automated Firearms System and related owner databases — after DOJ’s 2022 breach exposed thousands of gun-owner and CCW records. AB 1753 “clarifies” GVRO (red-flag) enforcement to cover ammunition possession. AB 2047 restricts 3D-printer sales or transfers unless the machines include “firearm blueprint detection algorithms.”

Heading to the Assembly floor: SB 948 would impose a minimum four-hour Firearm Safety Certificate course beginning in 2028, including live-fire and state-prescribed classroom time. SB 1220 adds a 10-year firearm prohibition for a misdemeanor involving altered identifying marks or serial numbers.

One stop: AB 1810 — which NRA called the “FFL Killer Bill” — was held in committee. It would have expanded California DOJ power to yank dealers off the centralized list and mandate targeted annual inspections. Five threats advance. The dealer-purge bill is dead for this round.
