Every Blue State Governor Is Copying the Newsom Playbook. Here's How to Read It.

Pass the unconstitutional bill. Let it get enjoined. Raise money off the injunction. Run for president on the fight. Watch for the pattern in your state next.

Pay attention to the rhythm. Governor Newsom signs a gun law everyone in his legal office knows will lose under Bruen. The ink dries, the lawsuit follows, the injunction arrives, the press conference laments 'judicial activism.' Then the small-dollar email hits your inbox. Millions of dollars later, the cycle resets.

Hochul did it. Murphy did it. Pritzker did it. Polis is doing it. Healey is doing it. Spanberger is running the Virginia edition in real time. This is not a coincidence — this is a product, and the product is campaign cash.

The tell is the timing. These bills always pass right before a filing deadline. The lawsuits always get announced at a coordinated press event. The governor's name always ends up on a fundraising landing page within 24 hours. The substance of the bill almost doesn't matter, which is why the bills keep getting more extreme — an enjoined 'assault weapons' statute is worth as much to the cycle as one that survives.

What defeats a cycle like this is not more outraged tweets. It's operational discipline on our side. Fund the litigation groups that show up in every one of these cases — SAF, FPC, GOA, NRA-ILA when they're actually in the courtroom. Donate to the primary challengers who can take the safe-seat legislators out at the source. Make the vote expensive in-state, not just in federal court.

And when a governor running this playbook shows up in a presidential primary field, the question isn't 'are they serious about guns' — it's 'how many millions did they raise off being enjoined?' Read the filings. The answer is always the same.

"The bill is not the point. The lawsuit is not the point. You — writing a check, calling a rep, showing up — are the point."
