Baker County Woman Shoots Alleged Attacker—Deputies Point to Self-Defense
A 77-year-old woman cooperated with investigators after the early-morning encounter.
An older woman had a means of defense when an alleged attacker confronted her before dawn. Baker County investigators say their preliminary findings indicate self-defense.
Action News Jax reported that deputies responded around 4:30 a.m. October 5 at the Macclenny Veterinary Hospital. A 77-year-old woman reported shooting a man who attacked her. The man later died at UF Health Jacksonville.
Bearing Arms’s same-day report describes the woman calling 911 and cooperating with the investigation. Authorities had not released her name. The account includes an alleged attempt to force her into a vehicle, but the motive and full sequence remained under investigation.
The important distinction is between a preliminary police finding and a completed legal disposition. This case belongs in defensive-use coverage with that qualification attached. The reporting does not establish that the attacker had a weapon or that prosecutors have formally closed the case. Follow the sheriff’s updates.
