ATF’s July Form 4 Wait: 9 Days on eForms, 8-Day Median — 6.6 Million Cans on the Books
Individual eForm 4 averaged 9 days in July. Trust eForm 4 averaged 33. Form 1 eForms averaged 57. The registry is still the tax.

Form 1 eForms: 57 days; paper Form 1 averaged 38. Form 3 and Form 5 eForms: 1 day. Those are averages. The Bureau's own footnote says some forms take longer for extra research or volume spikes.
July monthly data: 225,231 NFA applications received; 120,623 of those were Form 4 silencer applications. ATF finalized 254,639 NFA applications, 135,059 Form 4s, and 133,942 silencer Form 4s. Median processing time for individual eForm 4 applications: 8 days. Actionable NFA applications still in the pile: 62,916.

The National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, as of August 4, lists 6,654,209 silencers, 1,227,044 short-barreled rifles, 208,674 short-barreled shotguns, and 96,869 any other weapons.
